Private Lessons

PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION CONTRACT

1. _________________________, herein after referred to as the student, will receive a 30 minute lesson once a week at a cost of ________ per week. Payment for lessons is to be made once a month by the date of the first lesson. Payments should be handled with the store.

2. Every effort will be made to see the student each week. If the teacher must cancel for any reason and is unable to reschedule, a credit of ____ will be issued on the next month’s bill. The student can cancel a lesson up to the day before a scheduled meeting and still receive credit. If the student needs to cancel a lesson, inform the teacher of the conflict as soon as possible. The first option is to reschedule the lesson. If it is not possible to reschedule the lesson, a credit of ____ will be issued on the next month’s lesson. Any cancellations received on the day of the lesson will not be rescheduled and will not receive credit. This includes a “no show” lesson. The only exception is a cancellation due to inclement weather. Most lessons are scheduled back to back, therefore, it is of utmost importance that the student be ON TIME for the lesson.

3. The most vital element in learning a musical instrument is Consistent Practice. The minimum goal of practice time is 20 minutesa day, 6 days a week. Occasionally, there will be weeks of irregular practice due to illness, vacations, etc., but the student is expected to maintain this minimum (or more) faithfully. The student will turn in a signed practice record each week.

4. It is VERY DIFFICULT to work without music. Be sure to bring the assigned music to every lesson. Also, the student should bring all other materials requested by the teacher. The student must purchase all music, although the teacher may order, or pick up the music as needed.

5.  Required materials for each student are as follows:  instrument in proper working order, all music, sharpened pencil, metronome.  Students will be introduced to SmartMusic, a computer program that assists with instruction and practice, but purchasing the program for home use is entirely optional.
